The firm has provided legal advice on financial law to leading public and private financial entities. Its experience includes privatizations, mergers, acquisitions, and winding-up of financial institutions, dispute resolution in the financial sector, financial regulation, securities law, insurance and reinsurance law.

Mr. Hugo Palacios Mejia, the firm’s senior partner, acquired experience in the financial institution regulations as Minister of Finance and Public Credit, Governor of the Colombian Central Bank and as member of the Board of Directors of the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB).

Our team performed studies on temporary liquidity aids to financial entities, interest rate limits in housing loans, usury rates regulation, limits on credit to individual clients, mortgages, interbank lending for the acquisition of shares, and joint venture partnerships in the finance sector.

Palacios Lleras has represented the Colombian Financial Institutions Guarantee Fund (Fogafin); the Financial Superintendency, and several private financial entities, among them insurers and reinsurers.

The firm has also counseled clients on capitalizations and acquisition of domestic insurance brokerage companies by foreign insurance brokers. It has acted as counsel to insurance and reinsurance companies in arbitration and represented trust companies before the Financial Superintendency.
